Pre-Formula: They're All Good — Here Are the Differences

In a nutshell: ALL pre-formula brands approved in Germany are safe and meet EU regulations. There is no "best" brand — only the one that works BEST for YOUR baby.

What all pre-formula have in common (EU law)

• Same energy content (60-70 kcal/100ml)
• Same minimum/maximum nutrient values
• Strict quality controls
• Suitable from birth
• Pre = closest to breast milk

What REALLY makes the difference

• Tolerance: Some babies tolerate one brand better than another → try it out
• HMO (Human Milk Oligosaccharides): Newer additives that mimic breast milk (Aptamil, HiPP)
• GOS/FOS: Prebiotic fiber for gut health
• Organic vs. conventional: Fewer pesticides, but same nutrient quality

The most important rule

Switching brands is okay — if your baby doesn't tolerate one (bloating, spitting up, rash), try another. That's not a failure.

What you should NOT do

• ❌ HA-formula without medical recommendation (no longer standard recommendation)
• ❌ Homemade "milk" (almond milk, oat milk — NOT for babies!)
• ❌ Follow-on formula (stage 1, stage 2) — pre is enough for the whole first year
