Sun Protection for Babies

Baby skin is extremely sensitive — it is thinner than adult skin and does not yet have mature UV protection. Babies under 12 months should NOT be exposed to direct sunlight. Sunscreen is only recommended from 6 months. The best protection: shade, UV clothing, and avoiding midday sun.

Under 6 months: NO direct sun, NO sunscreen — only shade and clothing. From 6 months: mineral sunscreen (SPF 50+) on uncovered skin, apply 20 minutes before going out, reapply every 2 hours. From 12 months: continue avoiding direct sun, but brief sun exposure with protection possible. ALWAYS: sun hat with wide brim and neck protection. Even in the car: UV film on side windows.
